Pharmacy Technician I, II

This certificate program is designed to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge to begin work as a

pharmacy technician. The coursework will fulfill the requirements of ASHP and the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. This course prepares students for the  national examination administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Trained, experienced pharmacy technicians who can demonstrate the right skills and knowledge should be able to pursue many exciting and respected career options or postsecondary study in the pharmacy field.

Mrs. Pierce has been teaching Pharmacy Technician I & II  at RTC  since 2015.  Mrs.  Pierce entered career and technical education with over 15 years of experience in pharmacy and healthcare that she continues to develop to ensure that her students have the most up to date knowledge and training. In addition to her role as an educator she also Mrs. Pierce serves as a member of the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council and the Virginia Pharmacy Association. She is a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board- certified educator and a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She also serves as the lead HOSA advisor at the school level and recently accepted the position as the HOSA Competitive Events Coordinator at the state level. Mrs. Pierce is also the Assistant Director of Street Smartz Over Safety and a Prevention Partner with the Trauma Healing Response Network. Finally she is a certified CPR and Revive ! instructor. 

Mrs. Pierce feels that her expertise in healthcare can help her students gain insight on real world expectations before entering the workforce. She believes that pharmacy has many opportunities and is continuously growing and changing.
